Alpha Browett Taylor
Comprehensive Rating Advice London
We provide thorough and comprehensive rating advice on properties across all main sectors of the commercial market, including offices, retail, industrial, leisure, and mixed-use developments. Our aim is to ensure that clients’ rateable values are accurately assessed so that rates liabilities and actual payments are kept to an absolute minimum within the current statutory framework.
All rating appeals are handled personally by a chartered surveyor with the breadth of knowledge and expertise needed to negotiate effectively from a position of strength with the Valuation Office Agency. We challenge rateable values robustly throughout the Check, Challenge, Appeal process, using detailed analysis of comparable evidence, rental information, and market data.
We have successfully represented clients’ interests at Valuation Tribunals, and where necessary, at the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) and in higher courts. Our services include preparing and submitting rating appeal proposals, negotiating revised rateable values with the VOA, advising on transitional relief, empty property rates, relief schemes, and strategic rate mitigation options such as split assessments or deletions.
By combining in-depth market understanding, strong evidence gathering, and skilled advocacy, we work to secure the most favourable rating outcomes for our clients. Our RICS-regulated status guarantees that all advice and representation is professional, impartial, and conducted to the highest standards, giving you confidence that your rates position is defended effectively in a complex and changing rating environment.
UK Business Rate Appeals
Commercial properties and businesses must pay business rates tax. The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) adjusts the rateable value of business properties to reflect changes in the property market. The most recent revaluation came into effect in England and Wales on 1 April 2017, based on rateable values from 1 April 2015. Businesses challenging their rates can appeal directly to the VOA providing that they have grounds to do so.
Our experienced team has in depth knowledge and experience of the UK Rating System. We can tailor our services to meet your requirements, we can provide rating consultancy to reduce rates liabilities, manage appeals and assist through short-term and long-term strategic planning.
